Acting Spokesperson Shejal Pulivarti:
Today, Administrator Samantha Power convened a roundtable with government leaders from nine countries across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) to discuss solutions to address regional food insecurity made worse by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The meeting provided a forum for regional leaders to share knowledge and advance regional collaboration to meet the shared challenges of food insecurity in the world’s most water-scarce region.
Participants discussed the impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine, rising food prices, and climate change, as well as their innovative approaches to tackling these problems. Administrator Power expressed USAID’s commitment to partnering with its regional partners and fellow donor nations. She also shared information about USAID’s cutting-edge approaches to the food security crisis, as well as the Agency’s upcoming efforts to utilize supplemental funds authorized by Congress for countries and communities most in need.
USAID will continue to work with its partners in the MENA region and across the world to help vulnerable populations who are most impacted by Russia’s war against Ukraine and worsening food insecurity.
