I<\/span>sraeli Prime Minister\u00a0Benjamin Netanyahu<\/a>\u00a0wants to get a security agreement with the U.S. focused on deterring\u00a0Iran<\/a>\u00a0in the context of the\u00a0mega-deal<\/a>\u00a0the Biden administration is trying to reach with\u00a0Saudi Arabia and Israel<\/a>, four Israeli and U.S. officials told Axios.<\/p>\n

Why it matters:<\/strong>\u00a0A formal agreement, which would likely have to be approved by Congress, would give stronger U.S. security guarantees to\u00a0Israel<\/a>\u00a0at a time when Iran continues to\u00a0advance its nuclear program<\/a>. The chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley\u00a0told Congress<\/a> the Iranians could build a nuclear device within five months if they decided to do so.<\/p>\n
